Prevention is better than cure
Our penicillin program helps young people with rheumatic heart disease to stay healthy
Education and awareness
From Timor-Leste’s only cardiologist to village health workers, we are supporting skills to improve heart health
Research and advocacy
Timor-Leste has one of the highest rates of rheumatic heart disease in the world
We believe that good health should be a universal right.
And we’re working hard to make that happen. Untreated heart disease is one of the biggest health challenges in Timor-Leste. As well as immediate help for the most critical cases, we are tackling the root causes of poor health in Timor-Leste with research and advocacy and education and prevention projects.
Every donation helps us to mend broken hearts and tackle the root causes of poor heart health in Timor-Leste

Champions of our cause
His Excellency General The Hon Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd)
I am very proud to support the work of East Timor Hearts Fund, which is delivering critical care for patients who need it today, while also working collaboratively with local people and institutions to support the development of a strong health system for tomorrow.
His Excellency Xanana Gusmao
East Timor Hearts Fund is playing a crucial role in supporting health care in Timor-Leste. It is a great example of compassion, friendship and effective action by the Australian people to assist their neighbour.
Lin Jong, Western Bulldogs
It’s easy to take health and medical services for granted when you’ve been born in one of the luckiest countries on the planet. But not everyone is so lucky. I’ve seen how life-changing heart surgery can be for our patients. I’m proud to be an ambassador for East Timor Hearts Fund.
Anche Cabral, former Olympian, champion cyclist
Too many young Timorese, especially young women and girls, suffer from heart disease. I want to use my profile as a sportswoman to tell people about avoiding rheumatic heart disease, and how organisations like East Timor Hearts Fund can help.
