East Timor Hearts Fund has announced the election of leading cardiologists Dr Will Wilson and Professor Peter Barlis to its board.

Board chair Ingrid Svendsen said the board was delighted that individuals of the calibre of Professor Barlis and Dr Wilson were willing to volunteer their skills in the important role of board director. Dr Wilson and Professor Barlis have been elected for three year terms.

Professor Peter Barlis Professor Barlis is an internationally-recognised interventional cardiologist with the Northern and St Vincent’s hospitals as well as an academic, researcher and entrepreneur. He is an experienced and qualified board director and holds a Master of Public Health degree.

Dr Will Wilson Dr Wilson is a cardiologist specialising in interventional cardiology (coronary and structural) and adult congenital heart disease. He has completed cardiology fellowships in Australia, the UK and Canada. Dr Wilson volunteers with East Timor Hearts Fund, performing surgery and participating in screening clinics in Timor-Leste.

Ms Svendsen said the vacancies for directors with governance and clinical skills were externally advertised and attracted strong interest. “With our 10th birthday approaching, these are very exciting times for East Timor Hearts Fund, as we continue to expand our services and consolidate our reputation as a leading heart health organisation in Timor-Leste and Australia,” Ms Svendsen said.

“These new appointments add to the clinical and research skills already represented on the board. They will further the strengthen the board and our organisation’s capacity to deliver on our mission of supporting better heart health and heart health services for the people of Timor-Leste.”
